What is the difference between brushed and brushless esc

These motors can't usually be serviced and so once they die, a replacement is the only way to get your RC running again. With that said, there is still a place for brushed motors in the hobby and that is mainly in RC crawlers.

In this genre, there are still quite a few high spec motors available that can be serviced and rebuilt if required. In the video below Ryan takes us through the best way to clean and maintain a Brushed Motor. Brushless motors are a very different product and have allowed the hobby to expand and grow in areas that would never have been possible with brushed motors.

Due to their affordability, brushed motors are usually supplied with most entry-level to mid-range radio control car kits. The extremely popular Tamiya kits, for example, are usually supplied with a standard type silver can. No commutator or brushes means almost zero maintenance the bearings will last a very long time but obviously not forever. Read about Li-Po batteries. You must be logged in to post a comment.

Only two of the three wires are energized by the ESC at any given time. The pole that is not energized coasting at any specific instant will actually generate a small amount of voltage that is proportional to how fast the motor is turning. This small voltage is used by the ESC to determine how fast and in what direction the motor is turning at any given time.

With this information, the ESC knows how to charge the electromagnets to keep the motor turning. Electric Basics. More about ESC's. Sizing Motors. Lipo Packs. When the RC bug bites, it bites hard! Control yourself my friend!
