When your train platform is posted, do go to your platform number. But instead of taking the stairs to your left, take the easy escalator to your right. You end up in the same place as those shleping their luggage up the steps.

Perhaps regional train cars have poor car numbering. But our RJ train had its cars clearly marked with a 2 and a 1, for 2nd and 1st class. Your ticket should state your class and in some cases, your car and seat numbers. We did not use the WC, so no hints. But if you have time, do take in the amazing second floor. Like most of the buildings in Prague, simply stunning. Violetta Dubai, United Arab Emirates 32 contributions. We arrived by train from Bratislava to Prague, we had two big suitcases so we decided to take a taxi, our hotel was 3.

We asked the yellow taxi driver outside how much will it cost and they said 25 euros! The other one said 15 euros! They dropped half price in a matter of seconds. We went to the other side they gave us the same price. We thought thats too expensive for an 8 minute drive!! So we ordered Uber, and paid 3 euros!!! There's a big difference between 15 euros and 3 euros! Don't use these taxi, they're thieves!

I am Czech citizen living in UK and have travelled the world quite extensively and have gone recently through Prague to go to Spain. I tried to exchange euros from pounds in Prague main train station in Maccorp. They told me I can't but they will exchange me through Czech currency.

As I sign a small piece of paper meant she wouldn't help me rectify my mistake and I lost my money. Do not exchange money there. MasonDixonVixen 38 contributions. Praha hlavni nadrazi main train station in Prague.

The Prague train station is different than German or Austrian ones because you have to wait with a few hundred other travelers in front of the train schedule monitors. Know your train departure time, number and destination which will display the platform number only about 10 minutes before departure. It's useless to ask train information desks because they will not have or know the platform number that your train will depart from.

Disregard anyone who approaches "to help you" find the correct platform as the display boards are the only version of the truth. Free Wi Fi access varies. Plenty of places to buy something to eat and drink.

The train crew gives each passenger a free bottle of water. Train food is microwaved. We traveled to Prague via train from Florence, stopping for a few days at Salzburg and Vienna. We arrived at the Prague station at 9 PM and it was like walking into the set of a Walking Dead movie. The place was dirty with poor signage and lighting. We were approached several time by beggars asking for money. No real security or police presence. As mentioned by another reviewer, no taxi signs are shown. We finally found out that taxis are located far from the front of the station thru a park full of sketchy characters.

You walk out of the station thru a walk way and went about 75 meters until we reached the road. The taxis are parked to the right, but facing away from the station. We had a reservation at the Hilton Old Town and paid 20 euros, got ripped off a 10 min walk in the light of day Note the krona is used as currency and not the euro in Prague. Suggest you call your hotel for guidance on how to get to your hotel, have Kronas and prepare to haggle. Not a pleasant experience. Very difficult to navigate until you learn the system and layout.

We were in this train station three times. First on our arrival from Berlin. Second time, catching a train to Budapest. Third time arriving from Budapest at 6 AM. The first and second time here was insane. The tracks are above the level with the shops and street level. You have to walk down and through a tunnel past the shops to get to the street.

All is pretty modern and clean, but as far as gaining a understanding is extremely difficult until you learn the system. Leaving the station upon arrival wasn't too bad, but very difficult to locate the bus the we wanted outside.

Very heavy traffic and our bus stopped at three street crossings away. Prague Package. Stag weekends. Coronavirus news. Public transport. Tourist info. Travel to Prague. Tip: I recommend waiting for your train in Fanta's Cafe , upstairs in the quiet and relaxed former entrance hall of the original historic art nouveau building. It's on the opposite side of the station from the staffed left luggage office. Right-hand side of the station as you walk in. Think of it as the station departure lounge! It's located in the original entrance hall of the historic art nouveau station and named after the station's architect, Josef Fanta.

Simply head up the escalator from modern retail level -1 into the old station entrance hall on level 0, or you can walk into the old station entrance hall off platform 1.

Open every day. If you have any feedback, or if these hours change, do let me know. Instead, I recommend taking a 5 minute m walk from the station to the remarkable Restaurant Zvonice www. Don't worry, there's a lift! It's usually open until midnight so ideal if you're catching a sleeper. It's expensive by Czech standards, but not too expensive by western standards, the food and wine are great, and it's quite an experience - you won't regret eating here.

Feedback appreciated. The centre photo shows the bell, visible through a window in the floor beneath my table. After walking in through the main station entrance, head for the far right corner of that level. Another of the 3 Regiojet ticket offices on level -2, and on the right in the background, the Billa supermarket.

Hotels near the station or in the old town Location, location, location If you're staying one night between trains, book a hotel near the station, there are some good ones just across the road. If staying longer, go for one in the heart of the old town close to all the sights.

Hotels across the road from Prague Hlavni station with good or great reviews:. MeetMe23 3-star, a funky designer hotel with holographic receptionist!

Hotels on or close to the old town square with good or great reviews:. Personal recommendation: The Hotel Carlo IV is a grand 5 star hotel in the classic tradition, in an impressive 19th century building that was originally a bank. It's an easy 3 minute stroll across the park from the station, an easy walk from all the sights, and being in Prague it isn't as expensive as you'd expect a hotel of this calibre to be. Great location, great staff, nice rooms, excellent breakfast, and it has a spa and swimming pool.

Hotel Carlo IV , Prague, seen as you arrive from the station. Room at the Carlo IV Hotel It's just a 15 minute walk from the station to the old town square, and another 5 minutes to the Charles Bridge. Buses have an extended space for large luggage and stop right in front of the railway station building. Travel time is about 30 minutes.
